To make up roughly 36%
of the US female population, but being the most underrated , unappreciated, and unprotected .
To be desired, but to never be fully loved or
supported. To be one with the universe
and help build the nation. Only to be treated as if we’re a burden. The black
woman is a beautiful, divine, and wonderfully made human being, yet her beauty
and strength go unrewarded. Sometimes, discarded, and even ignored. Society has
labeled her difficult, aggressive, and “manly”. With these unwarranted labels there’s
no wonder why she must wake up every day, put that s on her chest, and cape on
her back.
This then leads to the black woman superhero syndrome that
develops in the mind. The one that says you must excel, and are obligated to manifest
strength, obligated to suppress emotions, resist being vulnerable or dependent,
succeed and help others despite limited resources.
There is a need for support of the black women because she more
than just her skin.
In 2014-18, the share of families headed by single parents
was 75% among African American families, 58% among Hispanic families, 37% among
white families and 21% among Asian families. According to the 2020 Census, 74.3 percent of
all White children below the age of 18 live with both parents, only 38.7
percent of African American minors can say the same. Only one-third of all
Black children in the United States under the age of 18 live with unmarried
mothers. Black women represent 42% of all net new women-owned businesses,
according to the American Express 2019 State of Women-Owned Businesses. That's
three times their share of the female population (14%). While Black women are
increasingly becoming entrepreneurs, projections of Census data show the size
of their businesses shrank after the pandemic.
Why we should act now?
We should act now because our Vice President Kamala
Harris is a black woman and is living proof of what black women can be with the
right support and backing of the community. Black women are the backbone of
this country, they’ve always held us down. Let’s return the favor and help them
reach their fullest potential.
